چکیده

By FRANK H. GARDNER, M.D., AND STACY R. METTIER, M.D. B LOOD pictures similar to those of myelocytic and lymphocytic leukemia have been reported’6 to occur not infrequently in patients with miliary tuberculosis. These reports indicate that there is a marked ‘ ‘shift to the left’ ‘ of the leukocytes in the peripheral blood to include varying percentages of myelocytes and myeloblasts. This hemogram is associated with an absence of the characteristic leukemic infiltration of the tissues on postmortem examination. Landon’ has reported a case of tuberculous bronchopneumonia in a i6 year old girl in whom the white blood cell count rose to 36,800 per cubic millimeter of blood; 95 per cent of the cells were considered to be immature lymphocytes. Coley and Ewing8 ‘ 8 reported the case history of a 42. year old woman with diffuse tuberculosis of the lymph nodes. The white blood cell count was 8,ooo cells per cubic millimeter of blood, of which 84 per cent were reported as of the ‘ ‘mononuclear’ ‘ type. The mononuclear cells were considered to be lymphocytes. Miliary tuberculosis in adults.

Of 40 adults with miliary tuberculosis 24 had "overt" disease; in them miliary mottling was usually present on the chest radiograph, and tubercle bacilli were readily isolated from sputum, urine, or cerebrospinal fluid. In the remaining 16 patients the disease was termed "cryptic" because its usual clinical and radiographic features were absent. This cryptic type is as common as the overt type ...

Skin lesions and neutrophilic leukemoid reaction in a patient with angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma: a case report and review of the literature

Here, we present a 53-year-old man with angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma accompanied by skin lesions (vesicles, papulovesicles, and miliary papules symmetrically distributed on extremities and trunk, with more distal lesions increasing in severity). Routine blood tests showed a white blood cell count of 58.97 × 109/L (Neutrophils% 91.64%).

Leukocyte Adhesion Deficiency Type 1 Presenting as Leukemoid Reaction

The hallmarks of leukocyte adhesion deficiency (LAD) are defects in the leukocyte adhesion process, marked leukocytosis and recurrent infections. These molecular and clinical manifestations result from an impaired step in the inflammatory process, namely, the emigration of leukocytes from the blood vessels to sites of infection, which requires adhesion of leukocytes to the endothelium. Over las...
